Mount
It is necessary for water colour paintings to be protected from the atmospheric elements and therefore, the painting is surrounded by a mount and then the painting and mount is secured behind glass and framed.
A mount is usually made of card, with the centre cut away, so that the card can surround the painting in its entirety. The mount should be capable of enhancing the subject matter without competing with it.
